District approves new water rates
Just two members of the public were on hand to hear water district commissioners Renée Coe and Madelaine Anderson vote to accept new water rates and general facility charges at a June 22 special meeting.

The stars come out for the 4th of July
“I know we did it in 2003 but everybody loves it and want to build floats,” said chamber of commerce president Pam Oakley, announcing a little sheepishly that the theme for the 2007 Fourth of July parade would be a repeat of the wildly successful Hurray for Hollywood.

Largest gated community to get another one?
If current proposals for Lily Point are realized, the area will be half public park and half gated community.

Dollars For Scholars to benefit seven scholars
The 7th annual Dollars for Scholars (DFS) Awards Night was held June 7 at the community center. This year $10,500 in scholarships were awarded to Point Roberts students.

It’s the time of the year that wildlife protection organizations, such as Lifeforce, a Vancouver-based ecology organization, get inundated with calls about seal pups on the beach.

Changes to the local garbage system being proposed by Point Recycling and Refuse may bring Whatcom County Council and representatives from the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) to Point Roberts.

Water struggles recalled
At the Tuesday June 19 water district public hearing some spoke of requesting an increase in the limits of the present GVRD water contract. This will only be accomplished if it is shown that it is to Vancouver’s advantage to do so.

Passport refunds available
Frustrated travelers who paid an extra $60 to get their U.S. passports expedited – and still had to wait for them – can now get a refund from the government.

NEXUS rules clarified for users
