Lana’s Limo gets underway

Using a pared-back business model, Lana Boykiw is optimistic her local taxi service can succeed where others have failed.

Boykiw started “Lana’s Limo” in the spring and after a period of being available around the clock, she zeroed in on the weekend as the time when the service was most needed. “I still have some regulars during the week who can call and make reservations but then it’s 24 hours a day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday Mondays,” she said.

Boykiw is also keeping her service area small. “I think that by not going across the border and cutting back on the hours so it’s simple and I can do other things, I can keep it going.”

So far most of her business has been serving the marina and bars and restaurants, Boykiw said. She charges a flat rate of $6 for the first passenger and $2 for each additional passenger up to four. There is also a $5 per 15-minute fee for wait time. Seniors get a discounted $4 round-trip rate to attend the Wednesday and Friday senior lunches at the community center.

“It’s been busy and I expect it to get busier,” Boykiew said.
