Voters
AGM coming up in March
Terri Zukovic will be the keynote speaker at the
annual meeting of the Point Roberts Registered Voters’ Association,
talking about national efforts to establish a universal healthcare
system in the U.S.
Zukovic will talk about her work with the group United for National
Health Care, who believe “quality, affordable, universal,
continuous and sustainable health care for all is the fundamental
solution to the health care crisis in our country.” The
group has been lobbying legislators to support House Resolution
676, the United State National Health Insurance Act that would
provide comprehensive health insurance coverage to all U.S. residents.
“Basically I’ll be giving the basic facts on the
single-payer health care system,” the bill proposes, Zukovic
said.
Voters’ association president Campbell McClusky said they
will set aside time at the meeting to hear concerns from the
membership that will help the executive committee chart the group’s
course for the coming year. Last year the group focused on several
drives to increase voter registration, held a candidates night
and a forum on the proposed Deltaport expansion.
McClusky said they would also be trying to get an email list
of all members and interested voters in order to send out periodic
updates on the association and issues of interest to the electorate. “We
find we have difficulty keeping in touch with the voters,” he
said.
Finally, the group will be looking for new blood on the board.
Three of the nine board positions are up for election. The
AGM will be held at the community center at 7 p.m., March 14.
