Dollars
For Scholars could use
your help for ongoing students
By Davea Fisher
Scholarship
applications for the Point Roberts Dollars for Scholars are
now available. Just contact Davea Fisher, or student liaison
Andrew Grubb, to receive a copy.
A student eligible for a DFS scholarship must be a permanent
resident of Point Roberts and a student or individual that
will use the scholarship for post secondary education.
The applicant must be continuing his/her education at
an academic, vocational/technical, or fine arts institution.
Students are eligible to re-apply for a scholarship as
long as they are an on-going university student. The number
of consecutive years that scholarships will be awarded
to a single individual shall be decided on a case-by-case
basis at the discretion of the board.
The amount of funds available plus the number of new applicants
will be taken into account. The priority of scholarships
will continue to be the same: i.e. graduating high school
students, on-going college students, adults returning to
school, or undergraduates applying for enrichment courses.
This year Blaine high school seniors from the Point are:
Tylor Alphenaar, William Cliff, Adam Dykstra, Eva Espinosa,
Andrew Grubb, Casey Hubbard, Steven Kaufman, James Long,
Dallas Martineau, Naomi Shucard, Rosemary Snell, Elyse
Viner and Ryley White.
As you can see, just from the number of one group, (graduating
seniors), the need is great. Donations are eagerly sought.
All donations are tax-free. You may contribute by sending
a check to: Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 2168, Point
Roberts, WA 98281
A donation in the amount of $500 or more may be given in
the name of a business or an individual. Recently we’ve
received a $500 donation in memory of a family member, and
a $25 donation in lieu of flowers for a departed friend.
Donations of all sizes are gratefully received. What a wonderful
way to express your love for family and friends and at the
same time enrich the life of a student.
