Cover
art competition
announced by Whidbey Telecom
Whidbey Telecom has announced their 2007 Directory Cover Art Competition
for local artists. The competition’s winning artwork is featured
on the cover of approximately 20,000 telephone directories, which
are circulated annually throughout Whidbey Telecom’s local
and extended customer base.
This
year’s competition theme
is “Whidbey Telecom’s
Centennial – 1908-2008: Celebrating 100 Years of Community
Spirit” in recognition of Whidbey Telecom’s upcoming
centennial anniversary.
“We
are looking for great ideas for cover art that exemplify
our excitement, cooperation and appreciation of community
spirit over this past hundred years.” stated
Whidbey Telecom vice president Julia DeMartini.
Last
year’s
cover competition award winner was Callahan McVay of Clinton.
In 2006 almost 40 pieces of art were submitted for the art
judging, which was held in June.
This
year, the company would like to encourage all local artists
to submit pieces that speak of community spirit. The theme
is open to broad interpretation and may include landscape,
figurative, impressionistic, abstract art, etc., and may
include any media.
The
competition is open to all artists living within the Whidbey
Telecom service areas that are at least 18 years of age.
Entries are due by June 15, and will be reviewed by a panel
of judges consisting of the company’s
executive management as well as members of the local art
community.
Artwork
must have been created after June 3, 2006 to be eligible.
The winning entry receives a $500 award and publication on
the 2008 directory cover with artist credit, plus promotional
exposure. The winning artwork becomes the property of Whidbey
Telecom.
Recent
artists featured on Whidbey Telecom directory covers have
included Callahan McVay of Clinton, Valerie Mayer of Point
Roberts, Moe Jerome of Freeland and Briony Morrow-Cribbs
of Freeland. Competition entry forms and specific details
are available online at www.whidbey.com, as well as in
the Whidbey Telecom customer service centers. Call 360/945-1122
from Point Roberts for additional information.
