No date yet on water hookups
Point Roberts water district commissioners could offer no new information this month about when they might start handing out water system connections again, and a crowd of 13 frustrated property owners left the monthly water board meeting to share their beefs outside the district offices.

Lots of Indians but no chiefs
“I have the crew but I don’t have the leader,” said parks board member Shelley Damewood as the board got an early start on their summer program. “The kids who want to work for this year’s program are coming out of the woodwork. The problem is no one seems interested in taking the coordinator’s job.”

Mandatory trash collection proposed
The county solid waste advisory committee (SWAC) is reviewing a proposal from Point Recycling and Refuse to make big changes to the garbage collection system.

Whidbey Telecom has announced their 2007 Directory Cover Art Competition for local artists. The competition’s winning artwork is featured on the cover of approximately 20,000 telephone directories, which are circulated annually throughout Whidbey Telecom’s local and extended customer base.

County council discusses septic regulations
The Whatcom County Council discussed new state-mandated on-site sewage (OSS) regulations late last month but in the end decided to wait for more specific recommendations from the Whatcom County health department before making a decision about if and when a homeowner would be allowed to inspect his own septic system.

The Whatcom County Marine Resources Committee will host a presentation and panel discussion at 7 p.m. May 3 in the bottom floor conference room of the Bellingham public library, on predicted sea level rises in Puget Sound.
