Scott
Hackleman appointed commissioner
By Meg Olson
Water district commissioners have appointed Scott Hackleman
to fill the vacancy on the three-man commission.
At their October
11 meeting Madeleine Anderson and Bill Meursing voted to appoint
Scott Hackleman to the position left vacant following the resignation
of Renée Coe in August.
Hackleman said he was interested
in community issues but didn’t
come to the board with any agenda. “I haven’t been
here long enough to develop any biases,”he said. “I
thought maybe I could bring objectivity to the issues.”
Hackleman
lived in Point Roberts for three years, 30 years ago. “I
was on the chamber of commerce and enjoyed the involvement in
the community,” he said. After leaving the Point he attended
art school in California and then, sponsored by the Smithsonian
Institute, lived in India where he was apprenticed to a musical
instrument maker.
Six month ago he returned to Point Roberts,
where he and wife Jody are working to restore an older home.
Hackleman is also continuing his work building and restoring
instruments.
