Fire
chief Bill Skinner submits his resignation
by Meg Olson
Fire district commissioners reacted with visible shock to news
that fire chief Bill Skinner is calling it quits.
“It isn’t written down so it isn’t really
happening yet,” said commissioner David Gellatly at the
district’s
October 10 meeting at which Skinner announced it was his intention
to resign by next April or sooner. “The time involved is
becoming more than I’m willing to give,” Skinner
said. “I may have taken it as far as I can.”
Skinner
said the move was part of his easing into retirement, not based
on any dissatisfaction with the department’s
volunteers, staff, or commissioners. He added he would continue
to be a department member and would be available to help with
special projects from permitting a new building to grant applications.
