INSIDE
It’s
that time of year again
The 5th
annual Holiday Craft Fair and dinner in support of the Point
Roberts Food Bank is set to go December 1 at the community
center. The event, produced by Samantha Scholefield and her
organizing committee – many of them members of Point
Roberts’ famed Red Hat Society – will showcase
local crafters, artisans, growers, musicians and singers and
has become an essential holiday tradition on the Point.
“This is an event that brings the best out in our community
in more ways than one” says Samantha Scholefield whose
group raised over $2,500 for the food bank last year.
The craft
fair will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature handmade
items from a range of local artists and artisans. Among the
many talented local members of the community who will be on
hand, Joyce Kiniski will be displaying her beautiful handcrafted
soaps while Julie Iddon will have sure-to-please bears and
bunnies crafted from recycled fur. Heidi Baxter will return
again this year with some exquisite glass bead items. The Cottage
Pantry owners Deb Brett and Peg Keenleyside will be showcasing
an abundance of preserved and baked goods including jams, jellies
and holiday fare. There will also be gift cards, beach rock
jewelry, knitted goods and locally made holiday wreaths for
sale. Kids can also visit with Santa. Admission is by donation
to the food bank.
The Christmas
themed dinner follows the all-day fair with doors opening at
6 p.m. at the community center. Tickets are $20 (US) and can
be booked by calling Julie Iddon at 945-1998. This event always
sells out so interested folks are encouraged to reserve early.
Many crafters will have their tables open before the dinner
for browsing and gift buying. As a special addition to this
year’s
dinner event, an ornament competition for Point Roberts school
children will be held. The winner – to be judged by the
organizing committee – will receive a gift from Toys & Tech
of Tsawwassen.
