Church News

by Lucy Williams

Finally, we can say, “Our prayers have been answered” and happily announce that this is not just a colloquialism. For eight long years, Trinity Lutheran has been without a permanent pastor, but no more. A call has gone out to the Reverend Dr. Jean Barrington to become our spiritual leader and pastor and that call has been answered.

On September 23rd, at a special meeting that followed the annual general meeting of the church, a vote was held to confirm the intentions of the congregation to seek Pastor Barrington’s services. The vote carried unanimously(!) and the call was answered.

Pastor Barrington will be installed as pastor in a service of Holy Communion on October 21st at Trinity Lutheran at 1880 A.P.A. at 4 p.m. Reverend Timothy Whiteman, Whatcom Cluster Dean from Bellingham will represent Synodical Bishop Chris Boerger at the installation. The entire community is invited to join our celebration. A reception in the parish hall will follow the service.

Also, in other news, Natasha Neufeld and friends performed beautifully to a packed house during “A Delicious Evening of Song,” a concert held at the church on September 1. Guest artists Karen Shumka on piano, Carol Diamond on flute, and soprano Caitlin Bradley performed with Ms. Neufeld. An equally delicious reception was held following the song event. Dorothy Bailey is becoming famous for her rich and eloquent desserts. Neither music, nor dessert was to be missed. This is an annual fall event at Trinity Church - mark your calendars now for next fall – and come early! This year was standing room only!

The annual church “Swim-A-Thon” was a huge success again this year. Funds were raised in support of Trinity’s continuing mission. Bob Culbert, Barbara Aven, and Kevin Thompson made the swim from the marina to the Crystal Beach raft (with the current) in the nearly record time of 38 minutes.

After warming up in Kevin & Tracy Thompson’s hot tub, swimmers were hosted by members of the congregation at the home of Dean Imbeau and Joanne Bellerive. A good time was had by all. Anyone is welcome to come be part of the swim challenge.

The community choir continues to rehearse on Thursday evenings (7 p.m.) and on Sunday mornings (10 a.m.) at the church under the direction of music director, Natasha Neufeld. Everyone is welcome to join the choir. Perfect pitch not required!

Church services with open communion are held at 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings with a reception for members and guests afterward. Bible study – 3 p.m. on Fridays in the Parish Hall of the church.
Everyone is always welcome at Trinity Church. See you there!
