2007: Candidate rundown
The
ballots for the November election will be in Point Roberts
mailboxes in October, featuring mostly uncontested incumbents
up for reelection.
Lois Garlick is challenging county executive Pete Kremen in
his bid for a fourth four-year term. Garlick, founder of the
North Cascades chapter of the Audubon Society, is a past member
of the county planning commission and the county shoreline
commission. She is running on a platform of responsible land
use and environmental protection.
County council member Barbara Brenner is running unopposed
for her position representing district 3.
Other uncontested incumbents in county positions include sheriff
Bill Elfo, assessor Keith Wilnauer and auditor Shirley Forslof.
Joe Elenbaas and Steve Oliver are vying to take over as county
treasurer from Barbara Cory.
Local resident Campbell McClusky is challenging Chuck Green
for his position on the Blaine school district board.
In Point Roberts races, only Lawrence Wheeler, running for
position 1 on the hospital district board, faces competition
from write-in candidate Robin Nault. Incumbent Dick Williams
is running unopposed for position 2.
Bill Meursing is unopposed seeking to be elected to the position
he was appointed to on the water district board of commissioners.
Fire district 5 commissioner David Gellatly is running unopposed
for a new six-year term. At the parks district both newcomer
Mark Robbins and incumbent Bev Griffith are unopposed. Erica
Loreen is unopposed seeking reelection to the cemetery district
commission.
