The Point Roberts Registered Voters’ Association appreciates the over 200 responses to its recent survey. Voters overwhelmingly agreed for a petition to be prepared and circulated. The text of the petition is shown below.
Copies for signatures will also be pre-positioned for signing beginning as soon as this edition hits the news stands. Petitions may be found at the following locations: Nielson’s Building Center, Blue Heron Gallery, Brewster’s, TJ’s, Julius Realty, National Mountain Sound Realty, and Point Roberts Realty. Individuals may sign any time through January 18, 2008.
The text of the petition reads as follows: We, the undersigned registered voters of Point Roberts, request the following modifications to the U.S. – Canada Nexus program:
1. That uniform rules be established including a statute of limitations for ineligibility infractions;
2. That a timely and accessible appeals procedure be established regarding denial and/or revocation of privileges; and
3. That personal goods transported between mainland U.S. and Point Roberts be classified as in-transit, not exported to, or imported from, Canada, as provided in Canadian regulations RC 4161.
