CHURCH NEWS

By Jean Barrington & Lucy Williams

In the springtime, life begins anew with flowers popping up and leaves budding out and it always reminds me of children. It’s the promise of a new generation, complete with all of the hopes and dreams that we have for them. And, speaking of children, please know that they are welcome in church regardless of age. If they are too young to sit through a service, then they are welcome to spend the morning in the supervised nursery. Of course, if they are old enough to attend the church service then they will get a special treat (as will we all) when Pastor Jean delivers one of her children’s lessons to them while seated on the floor atop her big quilt with the children scattered around her. In fact, if you know a child who you can bring on Sunday, please do! Then we will get to hear one of her special stories.

Here is a brief history lesson on the church for those of you who might be new to the area. Over 20 years ago, Bob Culbert aided by Robin Holland, diligently worked for months to establish the Daglet Braught (Icelandic) or Daily Bread Society. Many Canadians cheered them on and gave unconditional support for this very special charitable society that was established to aid Canadian Lutheran World Hunger, as well as our very own Trinity Lutheran Community Church. Canadian taxpayers, of course receive tax receipts for their donations to DBS, but more importantly, they receive a blessing – for helping us keep these church doors open for everyone’s benefit. Thank you to all of our northern friends and bless you!

And, since the church doors are open we hope to see you there on Sunday! Visitors are always welcome!

Pastor Jean’s Ponderings

It was another joy filled worship day at Trinity Church this past Sunday. The bulletins were handed out by Fred Albert and his grandson, Julian, who made sure that each worshiper had a stone in their hand so they could relate to my sermon. We had our usual crowd and a few visitors, including a very sweet, well mannered dog named Pax (how appropriate to have a dog with a name that means peace visiting us)! Pax isn’t the only one of God’s creatures to visit; often a small canine friend named Monte comes for soup suppers and choir practice. These critters witness devotion, loyalty and patience to us, things most humans aren’t that good at. God finds the most interesting ways to teach us.

A first time visitor brought his son to worship. He asked me if we have a place for the children to be during worship. I said, “The very little ones have a nursery, but all children are welcome and encouraged to worship with us regardless of age or ability to sit still!” Children bring lively curiosity to the worship space. We at Trinity Lutheran Community Church believe that children can simply learn about God and worship through experiencing worshiping with the community.

We are beginning to develop a vision for helping children experience God and Christian community, while also sharing the traditions of the church. The children teach us to experience joy and wonder in the midst of the traditional and we thank God for their presence among us.
