Local man facing March court date

On December 11, local resident Kenneth Peltier pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree burglary and indecent liberties.

In an affidavit of probable cause entered in Whatcom County Superior Court, county prosecutors state on December 1, 2009 the alleged victim telephoned a coworker and said a man had broken into her home and attempted to rape her. The coworker called 911 and when she called back the alleged victim stated “everything was fine.”

A Whatcom County deputy arrived at the residence and stated he recognized Peltier’s car and saw him in the home but that he “ducked into the bedroom.” The complainant came outside and alleged Peltier had grabbed her breasts and kissed her after she had told him not to touch her. The deputy entered the residence and took Peltier into custody. The deputy reported both parties showed signs of intoxication.
Peltier was transported to Whatcom County jail and released on

$20,000 bail December 2. Under the conditions of his release he cannot come within 500 feet of the complainant’s place of work or residence.
Trial is set for March 8. Both charges are class A felonies and carry a potential sentence of 20 years to life in jail and $50,000 in fines.
