Komusi replaces Biery as hospital superintendent

Point Roberts hospital district superintendent Margery Biery has resigned due to fast-tracked travel plans. Commissioners have chosen district secretary Elaine Komusi as her replacement.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge this position has offered and only hope that what has been started by the people involved thus far with the district will be carried on for many years to come,” Biery wrote in her letter of resignation. Biery will be moving to Vermont at the end of May “to begin the next adventure of my life,” she told commissioners.

Komusi began working with the district as recording secretary in 2006, after losing out to Biery, then one of the hospital district commissioners, for the superintendent’s job. Komusi comes from a 20-year business background, leaving a post as a human resources manager for a large technical services corporation four years ago to be a full-time mom. Komusi has recently returned to the workforce as a certified personal trainer. “I do that half time so this is a perfect fit,” she said

Komusi will start as the new superintendent on March 1 and Biery will continue to work and train Komusi during up to two months of overlap. Komusi will continue her duties as recording secretary during the training period. Komusi has accepted the same terms as Biery worked under – a salaried position translating to $27 per hour and a ten hour work week.
