2002 was a very big year for our senior center. We increased our membership by 50 percent and added many new activities and classes. The C.H.E.F. foundation rewarded our achievements with a $75 door prize.
The senior center sponsors the flu shot and blood screening clinic, ear exams, 55 Alive driving class, meals on wheels, bridge club, a walking club, the annual spring hobby fair and various outings. Highlights of 2002 would have to include our Tai Chi and computer classes (see Seniors Point for new classes). We are looking for a snooker teacher.
In past years the senior center has donated money to the fire department for medical equipment but this year a cash donation was given to the food bank to ensure that the needy children at the Point receive Christmas gifts.
We plan to have several fund-raiser bake sales featuring our famous homemade pies next spring and summer. Watch for signs!
As the baby boomers begin retiring, we expect to see even bigger numbers of active retirees at our center. Our present membership ranges in age from 55 to 90.
I am happy to report that our center is renowned for its warmth, energy and friendliness. All the members of our senior community, full-time and part-time residents as well as visitors, are always welcome at the center.
See you there!
