District picks new superintendent
Dr. Mary Lynne Derrington has been selected as Blaine school districts new superintendent, effective July 1. Her appointment was announced at the school boards regular monthly meeting March 24.
Derrington replaces Dr. Gordon Dolman who indicated his desire to retire last year. Dolman served 13 years as superintendent and prior to that was Blaine high school principal. Derrington is currently superintendent of Chimacum school district, a position she has held since 1995. She was selected after a review process that included meeting with parents and educators at open houses held to gain input in the hiring process. All of us [board members] read every comment received, said Barrie Hull.
Prior to the Chimacum school district, Derrington taught in Chicago and Holland. She later taught in Longview and Kelso, Washington and worked in administration in Kelso and Port Angeles before moving to Chimacum. Derrington took her doctorate in education from the University of Washington in 1989.
