Dollars For Scholars Recipients
A total of $11,000 in scholarships were given at the annual Dollar For Scholars awards night at the Point Roberts Community Center on Tuesday, June 17.
The Eagle Award: Wes Hubbard $1,000 award given for the highest score ever recorded for a scholarship application and for being named a National Merit Scholar. Less than one percent of all graduating seniors in the nation are eligible to apply and only a portion of these make the finals
$1,000 scholarships for university education were given to each of the six graduation high school students who applied: Danielle Petrucci, Trinity Western University; Rhyan Lopez, Eastern Washington; Wes Hubbard, Whitman University; Neal Teutsch, Santa Clara University; Shanna Seeley, Trinity Western University; Celeste Fraser, Western Washington University.
A $500 scholarship was given to an on-going college student: Kyle Teutsch, Cornell University.
Another $500 scholarship was given to Melissa Robertson as an adult returning to school; Bellingham Technical School. :
A $500 scholarship given for enrichment course: Shaun Fraser, Kaplan Test Prep.
The Evergreen Award $500 - student majoring in engineering - Wes Hubbard.
Chamber of Commerce Award $500 - academic achievement and community service - Celeste Fraser
Delta Cable Vision Award $500 - student showing an interest in communications - Neal Teutsch
Whidbey Telephone Company Award $500 - student majoring in field of technology - Wes Hubbard
The Friends of the Library $100 gift certificate to each of the six students to use for text books at their school. Point Roberts Community Award $500 - for his contribution to the community - Neal Teutsch for serving on the Point Roberts Transportation Committee
