Voter’s board comes up shy of a full slate in annual general meeting
The Point Roberts voters association will soldier on with a light board of directors after their annual meeting only came up with one candidate to fill five vacancies on the board.
“I don’t know what to say but we need you, Point Roberts needs you,” association vice-president Tom Hollett pleaded with the two dozen association members who attended the April 27 annual meeting of the association. Association president Rich Lloyd did not attend the meeting and will not remain on the board, Hollett said.
The nine-person association board of directors, which meets monthly, was down to four members going into the annual meeting due to resignations and expired terms. Reid Smith, nominated for a director’s position by Ruby White, was the only person to stand for a spot on the board and he was elected by acclamation.
“We have five directors which is all right because at least we can form a quorum,” Hollett said. “There’s nothing in the bylaws that says what to do if we don’t have nine on the board. We’re going to carry on and try and recruit more folks.” Board member Pat Brady was chosen as the group’s president and Mike Peters took over as vice-president from Hollett.
Members also heard updates from local agencies, including border services and the hospital district.
