TSB Shipping changes hands

Daryl Marquette is the new owner of TSB Shipping on Gulf Road, and previous owner Karen Scotti is poised to retire, again.

“I’m looking forward to having time to actually enjoy Point Roberts,” said Scotti, who started the shipping business in 1998 with Shelley Gitlitz. She had moved to Point Roberts to retire two years earlier but “just had to do something.” Scotti became the sole proprietor of the business in 1999.

Marquette came to Point Roberts the same year as Scotti and has worked in the local banks and for a brokerage firm. He started as an employee at TSB last year to see if the business was a good fit for him and decided to buy it. Owning his own business has been a goal for Marquette who appreciates “that sense of freedom” that comes when you’re the boss.

Marquette said he plans few changes to the business but hopes to be able to use advertising north of the border to “let people know we’re here and what our services are,” he said.
