Assault charge on ice

Under an agreement to defer prosecution with the Whatcom County prosecutor’s office, Scott Chap did not go on trial for second-degree assault on May 14.

Chap was arrested in October after allegedly attacking his wife.
The agreement was not available from the Superior Court clerk and prosecutor Jeff Sawyer did not return calls asking for information on the details of the agreement. Deferred prosecution agreements generally propose to drop charges if there is no further offenses during a probationary period.
