The Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau has announced it will once again host the annual July 4th celebrations on the Point. Oscar-nominated, award-winning visual effects master Robert Habros will be the grand marshal at the annual Independence Day parade and family funfest. The theme for the parade this year will be “Oscars We Have Known.”

Best known for his work on the movie “District 9,” for which he was nominated in the “Visual Effects” category at the 82nd Academy Awards, his talent has been recognized by the British Academy Awards, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror films, among others.

The parade begins at noon at the west end of Gulf Road and will end at the marina at approximately 1 p.m. A family funfest will follow at Lighthouse Marine Park, featuring entertainment, games and food lasting until 4 p.m.
The chamber is seeking parade participants, volunteers, food vendors and boardwalk booth participants. A nominal fee of $20 per booth will go towards the cost of the event. Parade participation is free.
