What are the special things about the Point Roberts community that make it worth the inconvenience of an international border crossing to get here? The natural wonders, such as bald eagles, resident orca pods, trails through pristine forests and miles of beaches draw visitors from all over. It’s a perfect location to gather and learn about our wildlife and how we can work together to preserve and live in harmony with our surroundings.
The second annual Green Resolution Night welcomes people from the region to enjoy the premiere of “Spirit on the Wind” by Alexander Stratford and guest presenter David Hancock.
The presentation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 26 at the Gulf Road Community Center. Doors open at 6:30.
“Spirit on the Wind” is a moving story about eagles and their return to human contact. We often see these beautiful raptors here in Point Roberts and their behavior, intelligence and importance to the ecosystem is showcased in this informative, inspiring documentary.
David Hancock is a well-known biologist, conservationist, writer, publisher and lecturer. He was responsible for the bald eagle video cam which was received with much acclaim. His current study on urban bald eagles has identified over 300 nesting pairs in the greater Vancouver area.
He will be speaking about the eagle population, how we can protect them and why Point Roberts and Delta are key to the greater Salish Sea ecosystem.
A representative of the Sustainability Forum in Point Roberts will give a brief update on various energy and agricultural sustainability projects underway on the Point. This event will also feature a preview of eco-tours in development that will educate participants about Lily Point, our shorelines, our eagle population and inspire community conservation.
In 2009, the first event drew 100 people from all over the region. We hope that even more people will come to the Green Resolution Night to learn and celebrate this unique community.
Admission is free to this event. For more information, go to:
