Braving the heat on Sunday, August 15, almost 40 dogs, their owners, friends and families took over the field at the community center for the 2nd Annual PAWS Dog Show. True to the show title, every dog was a winner in his or her own special category, receiving doggy treats from Pets Agree along with a toy.

Judges Mary and Mark Edgley once again came up with creative, fun titles for each dog, such as “best summer haircut”. This year, with Tony Slater running his sound system and David Buckley performing the role of MC in grand style the event moved up several notches.

There were as many super raffle prizes as dogs, and raffle ticket sales helped to replenish the coffers of PAWS.

Demonstrations of anesthetic-free dog teeth cleaning and acupuncture, as well as dog training products and methods added to the interest at this family community event. Point Roberts Animal Wellbeing Society is a non-profit group that has been providing animal rescue services at the Point for the last three years, working closely with community members and veterinary clinics.

PAWS is not affiliated with any other organizations with similar names. There is no shelter in Point Roberts, so foster homes are often needed for rescued animals. For information or to volunteer, please email paws@pointroberts.net or call 945-2338.
