Celebrate a great summer on the water and the Point Roberts community at the Point Roberts Marina Seafood and Music festival.
The event becomes an annual tradition September 18 starting at noon and marina manager Jacqui Everett said they are building on last year’s wildly successful event. “It’s the wind-up of the season, raising money for charity and having a really good time,” she said.
The event benefits the Point Roberts fire department, the food bank and senior center. “They help us dishing out food and beer and wine and all proceeds after expenses will be split between the three,” Everett said.
Local restaurants such as Brewsters and South Beach House provide the food for the event, and this year they’ll be joined by Illuminaté from Tsawwassen and a gourmet hot dog vendor. “There are a few more that I haven’t confirmed,” Everett said, adding that the marina’s new restaurant, slated to be up and running by next boating season, might be able to add seafood pizzas to the mix. Last year food and drink ticket sales raised over $5,000 for the charities.
Veteran Northwest pop-rocker Jim Basnight will headline the festival. Basnight may be best known for the Seattle 1980s new wave rock band The Moberlys, but he has never slowed down. A tenant suggested him to Everett after seeing Basnight perform last year in Roche Harbor.
From Vancouver, the Irish Wakers aim to get the audience on their feet with songs and dance music from Ireland with a nod to the Canadian Maritimes. Local favorite Bocephus King is in the lineup, as well as a sampling of other local performers. “There may be more coming,” Everett added.
