A surprise storm on Tuesday, August 31 pounded the boats moored off Maple Beach during the day. Seventeen boats either broke free from their moorings or took on water while anchored and had to be beached to avoid sinking.

Using a four-wheel drive vehicle and a rope, residents pulled the boats out of the waves and onto the beach. A resident on the Canadian side has posed a sign for people to come and claim their boat stuff that floated north of the border into Canadian waters.
