Church News February 2016

Seems like El Niño is working on our behalf. This wetter winter should make for lovely gardens this spring and a glorious Garden Tour this summer.

Meanwhile, there are lots of things happening at Trinity this winter as we await more sunshine and longer days.

Many folks on the Point love eagles, as in the bird, as well as The Eagles, as in the band. We recently lost Eagles founding member and lead guitar Glenn Frey, and on Saturday, February 20 at 7 p.m., Trinity is sponsoring a tribute to Glenn and the music of The Eagles.

The evening will feature songs from the 1994 reunion DVD “Hell Freezes Over.” Singing along will be encouraged, and Fred Culbert will facilitate a discussion regarding the meaning of these iconic songs. Come celebrate the music of this singer/songwriter. The evening will take place in the church social hall and there will be light refreshments.

The Youth Philosopher’s Café continues on the second Saturday of the month with music, discussion, and refreshments in a coffee house atmosphere. All young adults ages 15–20 are welcome. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m.

Lucy Williams is already busy getting performers lined up for the 2016 Trinity Chamber Series. So far she has three concerts lined up: the Chamber West Woodwind Quintet will present a Children’s Concert April 2 at 4 p.m.; the Bergamasca Recorders return April 24 at 4 p.m. and the Chamber West Woodwind Quintet returns May 14 at 7 p.m. with a program of classical music.

We are particularly excited to be offering an afternoon of music specifically chosen for children. We will keep you posted as more concerts are scheduled.

Our sanctuary is now more accessible; although we have always had a ramp on the east side for entry into both the church and the hall, we now have a wider side door into the sanctuary.

Trinity would like to say a special thank you to Bev Nielson for the donation of the door, and to Tor Baxter for his expertise in widening the doorway and installing the new door. Tor and Heidi became aware of the need when bringing Heidi’s father to church recently and Tor immediately offered to do the work.

There is also a new motion light for night visibility in the side parking lot. Peter Barclay and Stella Abbey came to church just after the installation and were so pleased at how easy it was for Peter to get his chair through the new door.

February is also the month when we traditionally honor those we love. Whether it is with a gift, a box of candy, some flowers, a simple card or a hug, remember to say “I love you” to the special people in your life this month and all year long.
