November in Point Roberts brings lots of opportunities for celebrating. For example, although the Trinity Chamber Series itself will not resume until 2016, we still get another concert.

Producer Lucy Williams has arranged for the Bergamasca Recorders to return on Sunday, November 22 at 4 p.m. This will be a benefit concert with proceeds going toward completion of the fundraising for the new Point Roberts Library.

The group will perform a variety of music including a few Christmas pieces, and everyone attending will be invited to a reception hosted by Dick and Lucy Williams following the concert. Bergamasca is a real favorite here, so come enjoy the music, have some refreshments and help push the donations for the new library toward the goal of $534,000.

The suggested donation is $10 per person, although we happily accept more and no one will be turned away. Help us push the fundraising over the top and break ground on the new Point Roberts Library.

As mentioned in last month’s column, Trinity Church has started a new happening for young adults ages 15–20. The social hall is transformed into a Philosophers Cafe, complete with funky mugs, cozy rugs and small tables. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with beautiful contemporary worship music led by Caitlin Beaupre and Veronica Hughes.

On Saturday, November 7 at 7 p.m., thoughts, ideas and questions will begin flowing along with hot and cold beverages and fresh-baked goods. Gina Gaudet reports that the inaugural meeting of this group was totally awesome. Like any good café, newcomers are always made welcome with no philosophy experience necessary.

If you or someone you know has wanted to attend church with a relaxed, less formal program, Trinity is beginning a non-traditional worship service on the third Saturday of each month, starting November 21 at 7 p.m. It will be a time of gathering, singing, sharing, meditation and reflection.

For those of us living on the border, November also brings us a repeat chance at Thanksgiving Day. Many of us will be pulling a second turkey out of the freezer for this special meal, while others will opt for ham, roast beef or awesome vegetable dishes and Tofurky. Whatever you serve, it is a day for family and friends to come together and celebrate our many blessings.

Thanksgiving is also about sharing with those in need. Donations to our food bank and other charities help ensure that everyone will have something to celebrate, a blessing for which to give thanks. Historically, this is when the settlers celebrated the harvest.

A good harvest meant a safe winter. Like the old hymn says, “Come, ye thankful people, come. Raise the song of harvest home. All are safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin. God our maker doth provide for our wants to be supplied. Come, ye thankful people, come. Raise the song of harvest home.”
