Demetra Killas

March 23, 1935 – May 7, 2017

Demetra Killas, affectionately known as Babe, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7. She was predeceased by her sister Helen Santos and her parents Gus and Kleoniki Chrisos. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of almost 61 years, Dr. Harry Killas, her sons Harry (Marie-France Leroi) and Mark (Shauna Ratner), grandchildren Andrew, Johanna, Simone and Constantine, as well as nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

As a young girl, she spent summers on the beach at Point Roberts, and later built a waterfront cabin where she spent as much time as possible. The door was always open.

She was born at St. Paul’s Hospital and lived in Vancouver her entire life. She attended Kitsilano High School and UBC. Demetra was an avid reader and a collector of cookbooks who mastered the art of clean, healthy cooking, long before it was fashionable.

Family was the epicenter of her life and she loved watching her grandchildren grow up. Seeing them always brought a sparkle to her beautiful blue eyes and a smile to her face. Demetra was determined and known as much for her strong will as for her great sense of humor.
