Fundraising for fight against the towers continues

Posted

To celebrate winning round one of the ongoing fight against the towers, the coalition is sponsoring a party and fundraiser on Saturday, November 29, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Kiniski’s Reef Tavern. There will be a towers update, music, raffles, 50/50, a jelly bean guess and more. The next step in the fight is to counter the appeal in front of the Whatcom County Council. The attorneys who filed the arguments that convinced the hearing examiner to find in the coalition's favor, are ready to continue to argue the case as it goes forward.

"The group hopes to raise $35,000 for legal fees," said coalition team member Jennifer Urquhart. "So far the coalition has raised a little over $100,000, with all but $3,000 going to research, experts and attorneys."

According to event organizer Annelle Norman, the Cross Border Coalition to Fight the Towers' Bistro Noire fundraiser was a resounding success. Ron and Elizabeth Hansen opened their home to more than 50 guests last month to raise funds to pay the legal bills incurred fighting the towers. Norman prepared and served up Cajun food while Point Roberts' own Shaune Ann Feuz and Tony Slater entertained the crowd.

"Thanks to all who volunteered and attended, a small but significant dent was made in the coalition's legal fees," said Norman.
