Hit the Reef; fight the towers

Posted

To celebrate winning Round 1 in the fight against the towers, the anti-radio tower coalition is sponsoring a party and fundraiser on Saturday, November 29, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Kiniski’s Reef Tavern at the foot of Gulf Road. The celebration will feature a towers update, music, raffles, 50/50, a jellybean guess and more.

The next step in the fight is to argue against the proponent’s appeal to county council of the county’s hearing examiner decision against the application. “The group hopes to raise $35,000 for legal fees,” said coalition team member Jennifer Urquhart. “So far the coalition has raised a little over $100,000, with all but $3,000 going to research, experts and attorneys.”

According to event organizer Annelle Norman, the Cross Border Coalition to Fight the Towers’ Bistro Noire fundraiser was a resounding success.

Ron and Elizabeth Hansen opened their home to more than 50 guests last month to raise funds to pay the legal bills that are being incurred in fighting the towers. Norman prepared and served up Cajun food while Point Roberts’ own Shaune Ann Feuz and Tony Slater entertained the crowd.
