PAWS redoubles its efforts

As Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease, Point Roberts Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), a registered non-profit organization, is renewing its focus on the wellbeing of the domestic and wild animals of Point Roberts.

Our mandate has not changed but other aspects of the organization have. The PAWS listserv, founded by Carol Fuegi, has for many years provided information and assistance to the community of Point Roberts and beyond.

Its original purpose was to provide notification of lost and found pets and to provide information on community activities such as fund raisers, yard sales and special events.

Due to the increasing number of notices, the PAWS board has found the job of posting them to be unsustainable by a small group of volunteers.

In exploring new options for this valuable service, the board has unanimously agreed to have Pam Sarkissian take over the management of the listserv with the launch of her start-up business, Point ePost.

We are grateful to Pam for her years of volunteer work serving as president of the PAWS board since 2018. At this time, Pam has resigned from the board in order to focus on Point ePost. We wish her the very best in her new venture.

Our newly elected PAWS executive includes existing board members: Fran Rozyskie, president; Margot Griffiths, vice president; Jan Atkinson-Grosjean, treasurer; and Sandy James, secretary. We are pleased to welcome our newly appointed member-at-large, Katherine Smith.

Over the years, PAWS has provided assistance to pet owners, promoted information on the use of pesticides and bat boxes, and advanced the wellbeing of wildlife including mason bee colonies, eagles and marine animals. These are just a few of our initiatives.

All of us on the board of directors are thankful for the generous support of the people of Point Roberts.

Watch for news of the revival of Every Dog’s a Winner, our popular dog show, coming to the community center lawn in late July. This is your chance to flaunt your pup because, as everybody knows, every Point Roberts dog truly is a winner.
