First Point Roberts resident drafted into NHL

The first hockey player from Point Roberts was drafted into the NHL on October 7. Lukas Svejkovsky was chosen in the fourth round by the Pittsburgh Penguins as its third pick and is currently in Michigan to attend the U.S. U20 camp to try out for the World Junior Team.

Svejkovsky, who will turn 19 next month, weighs 165 lbs. and is known for his hockey sense and puck-handling abilities. He attended Delta Hockey Academy and played for the Wenatchee Wild (2017-18), Vancouver Giants (2018-19) and Medicine Hat Tigers (2019-20) where he scored 28 points in 34 games.

He is the son of April and Jaroslav Svejkovsky. His father was a first-round pick in 1996 by the Washington Capitals playing 113 NHL games from 1996 to 2000.
