Volunteer appreciation day set

Posted

The Point Roberts community will celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Day on Saturday, June 25 at the Benson Road fire hall.

The celebration promises fun for the whole family. Throughout the afternoon there will be a community potluck, burgers and hotdogs and dancing to live music performances by Craig Jacks and Point Roberts’ own rock and roll girl band (featuring Shaune Ann Feuz, Savilla Kress and Krispian Emert). Games and activities for all ages, competitions, storytelling, an Ollie Otter Bakery cakewalk and much more. A full schedule of events will be published closer to the event date.

This celebration recognizes and thanks all those who helped the Point Roberts community over the past two years, as the pandemic and border restrictions impacted residents’ lives. This event will celebrate and thank our local volunteers with fun, laughter and good food.

Everyone who lent a helping hand during the pandemic will be honored at Volunteer Appreciation Day. This includes the fire department and clinic workers who provided Covid-19 testing and administered vaccines, as well as the many volunteers who pitched in as needed. Honored as well are the staff of the International Marketplace, which stayed open to service the community despite the sharp drop in customers. This event celebrates every Point Roberts community member who pitched in to help in both big ways and small – even those who simply checked in on the well-being of neighbors.

Special thanks are owed to those volunteers who regularly supported community groups.

The problems of the past few years are retreating, but the need for community involvement does not fade. There are numerous volunteer groups around the Point where community members can get involved.

Come on out to say thank you and share in the good times. Volunteer Appreciation Day will be held Saturday, June 25 from noon to 3 p.m. at 2030 Benson Road.

Sponsors of the event as of publication include Circle of Care, Point Roberts Taxpayers Association, Canadian Property Owners Facebook Group, International Marketplace, Ollie Otter Bakery, Trinity Lutheran Community Church and Point Roberts Fire District 5.
