The restaurant at the marina is celebrating new ownership with a new name.
Make way for Breakwaters Bar and Grill. The Compass Rose officially take its new name at the restaurant’s grand opening on Saturday, December 2, transitioning to a new look and new menu by next season. The event runs from 5-11 p.m. and will feature live music, drink specials and hors d’oeuvres.
On Saturday, December 16 management will be taking over ownership. Previously, they launched a contest asking the community to help them rename the restaurant and received a whopping 283 entries. Winner Bradley Everett came up with the Breakwaters name, receiving dinner for four at the restaurant.
During the winter the business model and menu will remain the same as new owners work on changes that will be implemented in the spring, including expanded outdoor seating, special events and new menu options.
Chamber to hold AGM
The Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce is inviting the local business community to their annual general meeting and social.
“Come out and see what we have been working on for the last year!” chamber president Dee Gough said. “Let us know what you would like to see from the chamber of commerce in the future.”

The Point Roberts chapter of Dollars for Scholars annual fundraising drive is in full swing and Umpqua Bank has offered to roll people’s coins for free for donation to the scholarship program.
There are many other ways to donate to Dollars for Scholars too.

Aprons on, it’s cookie time
Auntie Pam’s Country Store will be hosting their cookie contest again this year, boosting the holiday spirit and the food bank coffers.
The event will run from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, December 9, and participants can be bakers, tasters or both!
Bakers can drop off their entry of two to three dozen cookies anytime of the day of the contest. “We anonymously number them so no one knows whose cookie is whose,” said store owner Pamala Sheppard. A minimum $5 donation to the food bank will earn you the chance to taste all the entries and pick your favorites.
The grand prize winner will receive dinner for two at the newly renamed Breakwaters Bar and Grill (formerly the Compass Rose) at the marina in December. Second and third place will receive a $50 gift certificate to Auntie Pam’s Country Store. There will also be a special prize for the best gluten-free cookie.
Santa will be a guest of honor at the event and local chanteuse Delaney Rose will be performing holiday classics.

Get your poinsettias here
Point Roberts Primary School is teaming up with local businesses to brighten homes for the holidays and raise funds for school programs.
Ladybug Nursery is sponsoring a poinsettia sale, with proceeds to benefit the school. The plants are available in red, white and pink and come in three sizes. The cost is $4 for a four-inch pot, $10 for a six-inch pot and $20 for an eight-inch pot.
Orders can be placed by calling the primary school at 360/945-2223, or in-person at Nielson’s Building Center and Auntie Pam’s Country Store. The deadline for ordering is Tuesday, November 28; plants will be available for pickup in the first week of December.
