Dollars for Scholars deadline approaches

Posted

Local students headed for post secondary studies have a few weeks left to apply for scholarships from Point Roberts Dollars for Scholars.

This year’s fundraising campaign has raised over $20,000 allowing the directors to increase scholarship awards this year. “The community has been tremendous,” said local chapter treasurer Fern Peltier.

The application period for 2018 scholarships opened January 1 and will close on Tuesday, May 15. Thirteen applicants have registered so far, Peltier said. Those interested can log into pointroberts.dollarsforscholars.org to apply. Peltier said applicants who need help with applications should contact her at 360/945-0754 or pointrobertsdfs@gmail.com and volunteers would be glad to assist with the online process.

Scholarship applicants must be permanent residents of Point Roberts for at least one year. Scholarships are open to high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll in a full-time or part time course of study at an accredited school, or a student already enrolled in such a program.

Dollars for Scholars relies on community donations to support our local students, and there are lots of ways to donate. Contact pointrobertsdfs@gmail.com to learn how.
