Golf course revs up with new head

Jennifer Bell Fields has returned to Point Roberts to take over from Paul Beauchemin as manager of the Bald Eagle Golf Club. As company vice president, she will also oversee the housing component of the golf course.

After four years living in Point Roberts while managing the Edgewater Casino in Vancouver, Fields moved back to Las Vegas in 2017 to start a new business. However, she and her family missed the area and were happy when the golf course offered her an opportunity to come back.

An avid golfer who played professionally in her late teens and early twenties, Fields will oversee the daily operation of the golf course. She brings with her 23 years of experience in hospitality, hotel management and operations.

Fields is currently working with contractors and architects to get 33 lots in the Phase II residential development ready to start selling in spring of 2019. Subsequently, they plan to have 27 Phase III lots on the north side of the golf course ready for sale by the end of 2019. There are also plans in the works for a new clubhouse.

“This development will be different in a lot of ways,” Fields said. “There will be a real community feel with amenities such as the course, clubhouse, restaurant, common area along with a neighborh

ood feel. The lots are generous and the designs fit in with the landscape, forest, wildlife and activities. I can’t wait for everyone to see this project.”

Currently, the course is open daily and the restaurant is serving breakfast and lunch until 3 p.m. and Italian dinners on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 5 to 7:30 p.m. through the winter months.

“In 2019, we will also be adding a lot of new activities such as men’s and women’s golf leagues, kids summer golf camps, tournaments, events and a full liquor license,” Fields said.

Mama Mia!

Italian Night at the Eagle’s Roost is filling a hole that Point Roberts diners have complained about for a long time … no place to go on Tuesday and Wednesday nights for good food!

“It’s kind of like a locals’ night here because there was really nothing open before,” said Tracy Evans, manager of the restaurant at the Bald Eagle Golf Course.

On both nights from 5 to 8 p.m., the restaurant serves an affordable set menu of Italian classics. For $16 adults or $10 for kids and seniors, patrons get a choice of a Caesar or garden salad and a pasta. Selections include veggie or meat lasagna and a mix-and-match pasta – gluten-free pasta, linguine or penne paired with marinara, meat sauce, Alfredo or a rosé sauce. There’s ice cream for dessert. Chef Roger Gookstedder’s homemade meatballs mix three meats with years of comfort food expertise.

“We have wonderful deserts, too,” Evans said, as well as a wine selection to match the menu.
