Three sailboats towed

An arrangement by the Point Roberts Marina to dispose of abandoned boats has gone slightly off-course. According to marina manager Zihao Ding, the marina had entered into an agreement with Timothy Thompson to dispose of the boats. Thompson did initial cleanup on a number of boats and was intending to move them to the mainland for further refurbishment and sale. He was only able to tow two boats at a time and was staging them outside the marina entrance. On the early evening of Thursday, July 6, three sailboats were towed out of the Point Roberts Marina by a larger sailboat. One boat was anchored to the west of the marina channel, another was tied to its stern. Kacuum, the anchored boat, is BC-registered (13K82009), has no sails or engine and its hatches are open to the elements while the second boat has no mast or engine. The second boat tore loose from the first boat and subsequently washed ashore. Thompson told the marina that the boat would be removed from the beach once the tide was high enough to do so.
