Borderite pride is on display at Border Town Pizza with the new spirit wall dedicated to Blaine High School’s history.
Tami Bhachu, owner of Border Town Pizza, said she wanted to create a space in the community where kids could come to hang out and take pride in their school accomplishments and extracurricular activities.
After posting a call-out for donations on the business’ Facebook page, people from the community began bringing items to display, including jerseys, uniforms and photographs — some dating as far back as the 1920s.
Another piece of the wall is a digital rotating picture frame, where families will be able to submit photos of their students’ extracurricular activities.
Over the door in the middle of the wall is a mural of the Peace Arch, painted by Blaine High School student Toby Porter. Bhachu knew she wanted a Peace Arch art piece, and she knew she wanted a student to create it.
“This is for the school; it’s way more meaningful if you get the students to participate,” Bhachu said. “This makes it special.”
Bhachu is still looking for pieces to continue to add to the wall, and encouraged people to reach out if they have items to donate or loan.
“I would love to get more of that old history,” she said. “It’s kind of like a little museum.”
