Community Notice from the Board of Directors: Seeking new board

Point Roberts Dollars for Scholars

For over 10 years, the Board of Directors of Point Roberts Dollars for Scholars has proudly supported our local  students in their pursuit of higher education. Thanks to the generosity and trust of our community, we have  helped many students take the next step toward their futures.

As part of the national organization, Scholarship America has recently introduced a new operational model that  would shift scholarship evaluation and administrative processes away from local chapters. This change also  includes increased administrative costs.

After careful consideration, our current Board of Directors has decided that we are not willing to give up local  control or increase administrative expenses at the expense of our dedicated donors.

What This Means Going Forward

We are now seeking new volunteer directors from within our community who are interested in one of the  following paths:

Option 1:

Support transitioning to Scholarship America’s new model

Option 2:

Create and lead a new, locally operated scholarship entity, which would include:

• Building and maintaining a new website for student applications
• Managing the full scholarship application and review process
• Working directly with students during applications
• Issuing scholarship payments to schools
• Handling bank reconciliations and financial management
• Leading annual fundraising efforts
• Maintaining compliance with Washington State nonprofit requirements

Our current board members are committed to providing guidance and support during any transition. Important Timeline

If no new directors step forward to move Point Roberts Dollars for Scholars forward under a new vision:

• The upcoming scholarship cycle will be our final year of operation
• Any remaining funds will be donated to local educational charities

A Message of Gratitude from the directors

Brian Calder, Fern Peltier, Vicki Robertson, Pam Sarkisian

Serving this community has been an honor. Over the past decade, we have seen firsthand the impact that local  support can have on students’ educational journeys. We are deeply grateful for the trust, generosity, and  commitment shown by our donors and community members.
