Fire district issues public survey

Posted

The Point Roberts fire district has posted a short, two-question survey asking residents for their opinion on funding options for the department. A recently approved capital expenditure plan calls for spending over $4 million in infrastructure purchases by the year 2036. In order to do so and to pay for increased operational costs, the district will be seeking voter approval to raise the annual fire district levy.

The survey asks residents which option they prefer; one in which the levy is immediately raised to 45¢ per $1,000 assessed value or one that starts lower and is raised to 45¢ per $1,000 over a number of years. A house worth $336,000 (Zillow estimate of average house value in Point Roberts) would pay $151.20 in fire taxes.
