Letter to the Editor: Local snow clearing Point Roberts, a public safety issue

The Editor and Whatcom County Council:

Dear members, snow clearing in Point Roberts is always a difficult issue for the county to deal with in a timely manner. Our public works is located some 50 miles and two international borders away. This is always a difficult task to address and compounded by transit over snow covered roads trying to get here

You also have the whole county to deal with and they get priority. Further, your public works department has already published a cautionary notice suggesting there may be further delays in these services this winter.

I propose that since we have already paid for the annual snow plowing in our annual property tax bill that we be reimbursed for that charge and permitted to do this snow plowing work ourselves with those funds.

We have several local private contractors with the experience, machinery, licensing, and insurance. They are fully capable of conducting this work on an as-needed and immediate basis. Please indicate acceptance of this suggestion and where we are to send the invoice for this proposed work.
