A new company has emerged on the Point and it aims to reinvigorate a tradition of local food manufacturing through salt. Local businesswoman Noni Johansson and local restaurateur and business owner Tamra Hansen have teamed up to found 2 Salty Blondes Salt Company, which makes and sells premium artisan flavored salts.
The salt flavors promise to be inspired by the character of Point Roberts and the Pacific Northwest.
According to a July 22 press release, “Each blend is created to bring bold flavor, creativity, and a touch of coastal personality to every meal.”
Manufacturing takes place on the Point, according to 2saltyblondes.com, “Every batch is handcrafted in small batches right here in Point Roberts.”
The salts are already available online, and the four flavors cover a range of flavor preferences.
When asked about their favorites on the current product line up, Hansen said, “My favorite is the Blonde Heat.” The Blonde Heat features jalapenos and is described online as a "fiery blend.” Johansson said that hers is, “The Dirty Blonde, it’s the espresso blend.”
Another salt in the product line is Blonde Mui, which is sweet and spicy, inspired by chamoy and chili-lime and is recommended for fresh fruit, cocktail rims and snacks. And finally, Brunching Blonde is described on their website as a “Bright, herbaceous dill blend” and is recommended for everything from avocado toast to smoked salmon.
The products are available in a boutique at the Pier Restaurant, which is open when the pier is open. The Pier is at 713 Simundson Drive. 2 Salty Blondes Salt Company also has a booth in the International Marketplace, at 480 Tyee Drive.
