Charles Franklin Nunes
Charles Franklin Nunes (Chuck) passed away peacefully on December 13 at the age of 89, following a long stay at Surrey Memorial Hospital. He was deeply devoted to his family and found his greatest joy in being surrounded by those he loved.
Charles (Chuck) was born in Oakland, CA. For most of his younger years he was a United Parcel Service driver and he later worked in construction, interior design and owned his own trucking business. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and car racing. In 1980, he moved to Surrey, B.C. He later invested in a secondary property in Point Roberts, WA, where he personally logged the land and built a vacation home. This place held a very special place in his heart.
Charles was a strong-willed, hardworking man with a remarkable ability to fix just about anything. He loved spending time in his garage, where many happy hours were spent working on projects and enjoying a few “cold ones.” You could often find him daydreaming about time at his cabin in Point Roberts, or better yet, actually there, soaking it all in. He was often said to have nine lives. Through everything he endured, Charles remained a fighter, allowing him to live long enough to see the people and places that meant the most to him.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, JoAnn; his children, Dionne and Erica; his grandchildren, Lauryn, Carson, Reece, Kael, and Lawson; and his great-granddaughter, Ainslee. He is also survived by his sons from a previous marriage, Michael, Larry, and Raymond; his stepdaughter, Shannon; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Patrick, Terry, and Chris; and his great-grandchildren, Madison, Logan, Misty, and Brooke.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
