Proposed local gas tax increase on the table at weekend town hall

A Point Roberts Community Advisory Committee (PRCAC) town hall is scheduled for Saturday, January 17 at 2 p.m. at the community center and via Zoom.

Point Roberts Taxpayers Association (PRTA) has asked for PRCAC’s support of a one-cent increase to the local motor fuel excise tax and support in asking Whatcom County to place the measure on a future ballot. The increase would help maintain funding for local transportation projects. Past funds went towards signage, landscaping and road and shoulder safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists.

PRCAC wants to hear community members’ thoughts about the proposal before taking any position. Point Roberts residents and property owners are invited to attend this town hall meeting to learn more and share input. Link: bit.ly/4jvjTwd.
