Put a little tiger in your tank

CanAm Gas Station on Tyee Drive is now offering non-ethanol gasoline, a change driven by long-standing customer demand. The ethanol-free premium fuel has been available for about three months and is already seeing strong use.

“We’d been asked about it for years,” said station manager Shelly Weden, who has worked at CanAm since 2011. “Once we got new ownership, we decided to do it.”

Weden said the fuel has been especially popular with contractors, boat owners, and customers running small engines or classic vehicles.

“It doesn’t corrode your seals and it’s better to store your vehicles with,” she said, noting that some customers even purchase it for older aircraft.

Non-ethanol fuel costs about 50 cents more per liter than regular premium. Many Canadian customers seek it out, as most gasoline sold in British Columbia now contains ethanol due to clean fuel regulations that require renewable fuel content, making ethanol-free gas increasingly hard to find north of the border.

Beyond fuel, CanAm is known for its customer-focused extras, including a cash discount, free coffee and tea, a lending library, free cookies and candy, and dog treats year-round.

“We’ve always prided ourselves on our customer service,” Weden said. “We look out for our customers and what they want.”
