Q&A: New Semiahmoo Resort Manager Todd Woodyard

Posted

Semiahmoo Resort welcomed Todd Woodyard, 42, as its new resort manager in September. Woodyard shared insights about his previous experience, his love for the Semiahmoo area, and the direction he hopes to take the resort.

Woodyard’s responses were edited slightly for clarity.

What brought you to Semiahmoo Resort?

After a few years working in Bellingham, I was looking for a new challenge and Semiahmoo has been on my radar for years. When the opportunity came up I was excited to apply.

Where were you before?

Before coming to Semiahmoo I was the general manager of Hotel Leo and Heliotrope Hotel in downtown Bellingham.

How has your time been at the resort so far?

My time here so far has been fantastic. One of the things that stood out to me immediately was how special this property is — not only because of the setting, but because of the people who work here and the connection Semiahmoo has to the surrounding community. I've really enjoyed getting to know the team, our guests and the resort itself. There is a tremendous amount of pride in Semiahmoo, and I'm excited to be part of its next chapter.

What goals do you have as resort manager?

My biggest goal is to continue building on what makes Semiahmoo such a special Pacific Northwest destination while always looking for ways to elevate the guest experience. That starts with taking care of our team and creating an environment where everyone feels supported and proud of the experience we're delivering. I'm also focused on strengthening our connection with the local community and continuing to introduce Semiahmoo to new guests, groups and organizations. Whether someone is coming for a weekend getaway, a celebration, a corporate retreat or simply dinner with a view, we want them to leave feeling like they experienced something uniquely Semiahmoo.

What do you like to do when you're not managing at the resort?

When I'm not at the resort, I enjoy spending time with my family. I live in Lynden with my wife and three young children. I have lived and traveled across much of North America and Whatcom County is as beautiful a place to live that I have seen. I look forward to continuing to explore this part of Washington and getting to know more of the communities and experiences that make the region such a great place to live and visit.
