Obituary: Oswald Kienapfel

Posted

Oswald Kienapfel passed away suddenly on Jan. 6, 2026. His early life was flying planes, racing and running bush buggies, working on electronics and working as a mechanic in his father's garage, where he became a lifelong VW fan. Os was a University of British Columbia alumnus with a long career as a systems analyst and software designer. He was an active member of volunteer emergency services, a well known amateur radio operator and a Past Master Mason. He also played recreational hockey, flew drones at the local park and was an avid mountain biker.

Os was known around Point Roberts for such things as running a net on the repeater, volunteering and organizing with the Point Roberts Amateur Radio Club (PRARC), the Disaster Airlift Response Team (DART), the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Point Roberts Emergency Preparedness (PREP).

Os was a caring father, a dependable friend and was known for his sense of humour, intellect and kindness. He was always learning new things. His passing is a hole in the lives of many. We miss you and are grateful for the time we had together. He's survived by his children, Krista and Kyle, and his many friends who mourn his loss.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on April 4 at the Ancient Light Lodge Masonic Hall, located at 4873 Delta Street in Ladner, B.C. Refreshments to follow.
