After all the media attention Point Roberts received during the pandemic, the Point Roberts Historical Society continues to field many interview requests. This year, we contributed to articles by CNN, the Hatchet Podcast and KIRO-FM’s the Cascade of History, and more.
The Historical Society held events to share our history with the community. In April, over 20 people attended a screening of the movie “Fish Wars.”
In May, we hosted an 18-foot traveling tapestry from Iceland, a representative of an original tapestry 90 meters long, which took seven years to sew. Over 70 people attended to learn about Njal’s Saga depicted on the textile.
The society continues to add to our displays and archives in the Point Roberts History Center. We receive hundreds of visitors to Point Roberts who stop at the History Center to learn about our unique history.
It’s no longer unusual to greet guests who have traveled to Point Roberts solely because it is an exclave; there is a growing group of people whose bucket list is to visit the world’s exclaves. Visitors pick up maps to find the History Trail interpretive signs placed around the peninsula and enjoy browsing the unique items in the gift shop, which continues to fund the society’s operations and growing membership.
