It was another busy year for the Friends of the Point Roberts Library. First and foremost, for much of the year the Friends’ activities were in support of the Library Levy Lift: providing posters, lawn signs, writing postcards, participating in the Fourth of July parade, and advertising the importance of the vote for the Whatcom County Library System (WCLS). Our Annual General Meeting provided detailed information on the Levy Lift. Again, we thank the community for supporting our wonderful library.
We had another year of high-visibility community involvement. The Friends had a table at the Fourth of July concert at the International Market, doing facepainting, crafts and giving away books. The book carts at Nielson’s were kept stocked throughout the summer, and the Little Free Libraries program under our wonderful volunteers had its most successful year yet. We supported the second annual WCLS Whatcom Grooves concert in the park behind the library, in what we hope will become an annual celebration of music and books. The Commons in the community center continued to provide books and conversation and was much enjoyed by both local booklovers and visitors.
More quietly, the Friends continued to support the children’s programs at the library (who doesn’t love stickers?) as needed, another very successful program the Library hosts. Representatives of the Friends attended the WCLS-wide meeting of Friends groups, returning with new information and ideas.
